Fedora desperately needs a better upgrade system

I just upgraded my office workstation from Fedora 10 to Fedora 11 viapreupgrade, one of the two officially supported ways of doing it. Ittook four hours. Of course, my machine was effectively down for thosefour hours, as it was off the network and unusable.

(While my office machine has a lot of RPMs installed (2742 after theupgrade), it is not a slow machine, so I suspect that this is not anunusual thing.)

Suppose that your machine is an NFS client, and it periodically logsa kernel error message that looks like:

nfs_stat_to_errno: bad nfs status return value: 16

What does this mean?

Various NFS servers have various different names for an option to,well, I can do worse than quote the Linux exports(5) manpage:

This option requires that [NFS] requests originate on an Internet portless than IPPORT_RESERVED (1024).

On traditional Unix systems, so called 'reserved ports' can only be usedby root. (On non-Unix systems there's often no restriction, which hasperiodically caused bad Unix protocols some heartburn.)

Why does this option exist
