Python's dangerous automatic Unicode conversions

I spent today wrestling various pieces of commercial software into ourFedora Core 4 auto-install environment. In theory this should havebeen fast and dirt simple, because all of the vendors had thingspacked up in RPMs.
In practice, most vendors produce RPMs that are glowing examples ofhow not to package your software in RPM form. Instead of creating RPMsthat are fully installed software, they generally create RPMs that arelittle more than lightly packaged up files and then add huge amountsof post-install scripts to shuffle everything

Two faces of RSS
I recently came to a realization that RSS (and syndication in general)has two faces:
- notification of new information
- rearranging information from feeds
This neatly explains something that's been puzzling me for a while:why I find RSS sometimes very useful and sometimes very irritating.
Notification works great, except for web sites that already update asfrequently as I normally read them. (For example, Slashdot, which Ionly browse once or twice a day. If my RSS reader were to tell me thatSlashdot had no new
