The GCC open-source compiler has landed initial targeting support for Arm's newly-announced AGI CPU.

Last month Arm announced their first silicon product with the Arm AGI CPU featuring up to 136 Arm Neoverse V3 cores and designed for AI data centers. As part of getting the software support into shape for the Arm AGI CPU support ahead of various ODMs bringing servers to market with this Arm server CPU, GCC is now the first open-source compiler to have targeting for this new AArch64 server

With the vast majority of x86/x86_64 systems supporting restarting the system using ACPi, BIOS, or even the KBD keyboard controller, with Linux 7.1 is now support in place for using custom restart handlers registered by drivers, such as in place for other CPU architectures.

This change to the Linux x86 restart behavior to better align it with other architectures comes due to the restart behavior of the Lightning Mountain SoC from Intel / Max Linear . Lightning Mountain isn't following

All of the hardware monitoring "HWMON" subsystem updates were merged this week for the Linux 7.1 kernel.

Most notable of the HWMON code new to Linux 7.1 is the new "yogafan" driver for various Lenovo laptops . As implied by the name, it works with various Lenovo Yoga branded laptops plus there is also support for some Legion, Flex, Slim, and IdeaPad laptop models too. The Yogafan driver interfaces with the fan speed information exposed via ACPI and provided by the embedded controller (EC)

Making today very exciting in Linux 7.1 merge window land was a pull request being sent out for introducing the new, modern NTFS file-system driver. Linus Torvalds has yet to comment if he's going to merge the new driver but it looks like it's ready for providing a better Linux NTFS experience over the current NTFS3 driver that was upstreamed by Paragon Software a few years ago and hasn't seen too much feature progress.

The extensible scheduler " sched_ext " code for allowing Linux scheduling behavior to be defined via BPF programs is seeing some useful improvements with the in-development Linux 7.1 kernel.

The now-merged sched_ext code for Linux 7.1 establishes the initial infrastructure around cgroup sub-scheduler support so that multiple BPF schedulers can be attached to the cgroup hierarchy for dealing with varying workloads on the system.
