Strong quake in Philippines kills one, damages quarantine centre - Reuters

MANILA (Reuters) - A magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck the Philippines on Tuesday, killing at least one person and damaging roads and buildings including a hospital and a sports complex being used as a novel coronavirus quarantine centre.

It was the strongest earthquake in eight months in the Philippines, which lies on the “Ring of Fire,” a seismically active belt of volcanoes circling the Pacific Ocean.

Australia's Victoria reports 222 coronavirus cases, 17 deaths - Reuters

SYDNEY, Aug 18 (Reuters) - Australia’s second most populous state of Victoria on Tuesday reported 17 deaths from the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours, a day after recording its deadliest day of the pandemic with 25 casualties.

The state reported 222 new daily coronavirus cases compared with 282 on Monday.

BHP falls short of expected profit, warns of slowing growth outside China - Reuters
