AirAsia to take over Gojek's business in Thailand

KUALA LUMPUR/JAKARTA -- Low-cost carrier AirAsia is finalizing discussions to acquire Indonesian unicorn Gojek's business in Thailand, sources with knowledge of the matter told Nikkei Asia.

An agreement with Gojek, one of the most powerful "superapps" in Southeast Asia, would be a step forward in AirAsia's own ambitions to generate growth in its digital business.

It would also suggest how Gojek is reshaping its regional business in the wake of its announcement in May that it would merge with Tokopedia, one of Indonesia

Cambodia's Hun Sen intervenes to return pet lion to owner

PHNOM PENH -- A lion has been removed from a wildlife rescue sanctuary and returned to a luxurious villa in Phnom Penh after the intervention of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, who also waived a $30,000 fine for the animal's Chinese owner.

China GDP expected to grow 7.7% in Q2 on exports: Nikkei survey

HONG KONG -- China's economy is expected to expand by 7.7% in the April-June quarter, boosted by strong exports, according to a survey of 29 economists conducted by Nikkei and Nikkei Quick News.

SBI invests in AI-powered microlender serving Mongolia

TOKYO -- Japanese financial group SBI Holdings has taken a stake in Singapore-based fintech startup AND Global, which provides microloans in Mongolia via its smartphone app.
