Taiwan says vaccine shortage a security issue for global economy
TAIPEI/TOKYO-----Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu said the island's lack of vaccines is a security issue for the global economy.
"The government here is working very hard to persuade the international community that Taiwan is facing a very unique situation, and it's just not a public health issue," Wu said Thursday at an online press conference at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan. Garuda Indonesia to seek debt payment suspension: government
JAKARTA -- Garuda Indonesia will seek suspension of debt payments in an attempt to avoid going bankrupt, an official at the country's Ministry of State Owned Enterprises said on Thursday.

Vietnam steelmaker buys Australian iron ore mine to secure supply
HANOI -- Leading Vietnamese steelmaker Hoa Phat Group has purchased the entire interest in an Australian iron ore mine to secure a stable supply of raw materials in a competitive market.
The Roper Valley project, located in the Northern Territory, is Hoa Phat's first major mining interest owned overseas. The steelmaker has not disclosed the value of the deal.

Ant Group receives Chinese approval for consumer finance spinoff
SHANGHAI -- Chinese regulators gave their approval Thursday to Jack Ma's Ant Group to start operating a consumer finance unit after months of pressure to adopt more comprehensive oversight and obtain necessary licenses.
Ant will shift consumer lending operations to the new subsidiary and is expected to provide half the new company's total capital of 8 billion yuan ($1.25 billion).
