Closing submissions are set to begin today in a First Nation’s complaint before the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal accusing the federal government of systemically underfunding and neglecting on-reserve education in Ontario.

The Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation alleges the education funding formula implemented by the federal government in 2019 substantially underfunds on-reserve schools, fails to meet First Nation students’ needs and perpetuates historic disadvantage.

Police say Australian women with alleged IS ties face charges on return from Syria

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — with alleged ties to Islamic State group militants will be arrested and face criminal investigations if they return from Syria, police said Wednesday.

Man charged with murder in Toronto shooting is former police officer: OPP

Ontario Provincial Police say a man charged with murder in a daylight shooting in Toronto last week was a police officer in Collingwood, Ont., in the 1990s.

Toronto police said they responded to a report of a shooting in North York park on Thursday afternoon and they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds.

They said 47-year-old Daniel Stopnicki was pronounced dead at the scene.

Toronto police arrested and charged 67-year-old Michaelo Markicevic with second-degree murder.

MONTREAL — Telecommunications workers are calling for government restrictions on the use of artificial intelligence in the sector, suggesting the technology is being used to monitor workers and disguise the accents of overseas call centre workers.

Motorcyclist dies in crash with vehicle in Roncesvalles

A motorcyclist has died after crashing into an SUV in Roncesvalles.

Toronto police were called to Roncesvalles and Howard Park avenues around 4:15 p.m. for a collision between a vehicle and motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 20s, was trapped underneath the vehicle and despite life-saving efforts, he pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the SUV, a man in his 40s, is cooperating with police.

Three Toronto men have been charged in connection to an internet luring investigation.

Toronto police’s Child Sexual Exploitation Unit allege three men were communicating on a social media platform and made arrangements to meet up with a child for a sexual purpose.
