FORT SMITH, N.W.T. — A priest asked his congregation to pray for victims and first responders at a church service in Fort Smith on Sunday days after six people died in a tragic plane crash.
The charter plane had just taken off from the town on the boundary with Alberta and was en route to the Diavik Diamond Mine on Tuesday morning, when it hit the ground and caught fire.
One mine worker survived and was airlifted to hospital in Yellowknife.

JUBA, South Sudan (AP) — Gunmen attacked villagers in the oil-rich , leaving at least 52 people dead, including a U.N. peacekeeper, and 64 wounded, a regional official said Sunday.

PACIFIC, Mo. (AP) — A driver backed through the wall of a Missouri nail salon, killing a woman and injuring three other people, authorities said.
The crash happened Saturday afternoon in Pacific, a town about 30 miles (48 kilometers) southwest of St. Louis, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.
Killed was Jill Goddard, 61, of Pacific, who was in the salon, the patrol said. Emergency crews also took the 57-year-old driver and two people
2 wanted in robbery at Chester Subway Station
A man and a woman are wanted in a robbery investigation due to an incident at Chester Subway Station.
It is alleged that on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024, at approximately 11:15 a.m., two teenage girls were onboard the subway, westbound on the Bloor/Danforth line.
Two adults boarded the train at Coxwell Station and engaged the two teen girls in a verbal dispute which then turned physical.

HONOLULU (AP) — An American Airlines flight from Los Angeles made a hard landing at Maui’s main airport, sending five flight attendants and one passenger to the hospital.
The six were later released, the airline said in a statement.
Flight 271 arrived at Kahului Airport around 2 p.m. Saturday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, which said it was investigating. Neither American Airlines nor the FAA provided additional details.

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. (AP) — Two people were taken into custody as part of an investigation into the abandonment of a newborn girl who was found last week behind dumpsters in Mississippi, authorities said.
The two people were arrested Friday, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office said on social media, without providing further details.
The newborn was found bundled in several blankets in a car seat Wednesday behind dumpsters at the Grove of Cayce mobile home park, near the Tennessee border, the sheriff’s office said.
