Wolves at a Dutch national park can be shot with paintball guns to scare them off, a court has ruled

THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — A Dutch court ruled Wednesday that authorities can use paintball guns to shoot at wolves in a popular national park to scare them after at least one of the animals began approaching human visitors.

The decision was a victory for the eastern province of Gelderland, that has sought to frighten the wild wolves using paintball guns. Wolves are protected in the Netherlands and can’t be hunted.

A wildlife protection organization that opposes the plan said that it would appeal the ruling.

Fog advisory issued as Toronto enters mild, rainy stretch

It’s a foggy start to Wednesday as the GTA settles into a relatively mild stretch of weather expected to bring significant rain over the next few days.

A fog advisory is in place for Toronto and the western and northern parts of the GTA with Environment Canada warning of dense fog and reduced visibility throughout the morning.

“Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero,” says the weather agency. “If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.”


Restaurant company MTY Food Group raising quarterly dividend 12%

MONTREAL — MTY Food Group Inc. says it is raising its quarterly dividend by 12 per cent.

The restaurant franchisor and operator says it will now pay shareholders a quarterly dividend of 28 cents per share, up from 25 cents per share.

The increase comes after MTY chief executive Eric Lefebvre says the company posted record results in the first nine months of 2023.

DETROIT (AP) — Ford is recalling nearly 1.9 million Explorer SUVs in the U.S. because a trim piece can fly off and create a hazard for other drivers.

The recall covers Explorers from the 2011 through 2019 model years.
