Kenya doomsday cult leader, 30 others face charges of murdering 191 children; more charges to follow
NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — Doomsday cult leader Paul Mackenzie and 30 of his followers were presented in a Kenyan court in the coastal town of Malindi on Wednesday to face charges of murdering 191 children.
Mackenzie and the other suspects did not enter pleas because High Court Judge Mugure Thande granted a request from prosecutors that they undergo mental assessments and return to court on Feb. 6.

A growing number of older adults are in debt in retirement, according to the 2022 Survey of Consumer Finances from the Federal Reserve. Among people ages 65 to 74, the share with debt rose to 65% in 2022, up from 50% in 1989 (the first time this question was asked). For people 75 and over, 53% report holding debt in 2022 versus 21% in 1989.
Two men stabbed during overnight fight in Etobicoke
Two men were taken to hospital with stab wounds and one is in custody after a fight in Etobicoke early Wednesday morning.
Toronto police say officers were called to the area of Islington Avenue and Rexdale Boulevard around 3:35 a.m. for a fight between two men.
Police arrived to find both men suffering from stab wounds. The pair were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
One of the men has been taken into custody. Investigators say there are no outstanding suspects.
Mullen Group signs deal to buy logistics company ContainerWorld
OKOTOKS, Alta. — Mullen Group Ltd. says it has signed a letter of intent to buy logistics company ContainerWorld Forwarding Services Inc.
Financial terms of the agreement were not immediately available.
ContainerWorld offers international and domestic wine, beer and spirits producers inventory management, freight forwarding, warehousing and distribution services.
It is based in Richmond, B.C., and has a network of customs and sufferance bonded warehouses.
The company will operate within Mullen Group’s logistics and warehousing segment.

Police searching for 3 suspects who allegedly broke into North York home
Police are on the hunt for three suspects who they say broke into a home in North York last month.
Toronto police officers were called to a residence in the area of Leslie Street and York Mills Road around 2:50 a.m. on Dec. 28.
It is alleged that three suspects broke into the home and two of them were confronted by the homeowner.
Police say the suspects stole items from inside the home and fled in a Maserati SUV.
Investigators have released descriptions of the group and photos
