Tim Cook shares open letter of gratitude as he announces Apple CEO transition

Apple today from Tim Cook on its website, in which he calls his time as CEO of Apple an “honor and a privilege”. He also describes incoming CEO, John Ternus, as a “brilliant engineer and thinker”.

As announced today , Tim Cook will move to the executive chairman role in September. Ternus is being promoted from his prior role as SVP Hardware Engineering.

Johny Srouji set to take broader role as Apple’s chief hardware officer

Alongside today’s announcement that Apple CEO Tim Cook is stepping down, Apple has also elevated Johny Srouji.

Effective immediately, Srouji is becoming Apple’s chief hardware officer, taking on a broader role overseeing Hardware Engineering.

In a , Apple explains that John Ternus most recently oversaw the Hardware Engineering team in his role as Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering. Srouji, meanwhile, most recently served as Senior Vice President of Hardware Technologies.

Ternus, of course, is now the incoming Apple CEO and set to take over

Apple CEO Tim Cook is stepping down, and John Ternus is taking over. The CEO transition has quietly been underway for some time now. Starting today, the transition is happening publicly and will be complete this fall.

Apple says Tim Cook will become executive chairman of the board. Ternus, who was previously hardware engineering chief, will be replaced by Johny Srouji in an expanded capacity and Tom Marieb more directly.
