Apple CEO Tim Cook thanks Trump for focus on US chip manufacturing

Apple approves Spotify app update with external payment links

Apple has the first app with links to external payment options in the United States. After submitting its update to Apple yesterday afternoon, Spotify says that Apple has approved a new version of the app that takes advantage of the latest changes to the App Store Guidelines.

In an injunction handed down on Wednesday, Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers barred Apple from charging commission or otherwise interfering with developers’ ability to direct customers to payment methods outside of the App Store. Specifically, in the United States App Store, Apple must not:

Apple gross margin on services rises to a new record high

Apple posted its quarterly earnings last night , with generally strong performance. One standout point was the company’s ability to continue to expand its gross margin on the ever-growing services division.

In fact, Apple recorded a new all-time high for gross margin on services this quarter, at 75.7% . That figure is based on costs of $6.46 billion on sales of $26.64 billion.

Apple updates App Store Guidelines to allow links to external payments

Apple has the App Store Guidelines to comply with the injunction handed down yesterday in its legal case with Epic Games. According to the new App Store rules, “there is no prohibition on an app including buttons, external links, or other calls to action.”

“The App Review Guidelines have been updated for compliance with a United States court decision regarding buttons, external links, and other calls to action in apps. These changes affect apps distributed on the United States storefront of the App Store,” Apple said in
