Google won't be holding I/O in any capacity this year

In brief: Google earlier this month said it would be cancelling the physical component of its annual I/O developer conference due to Covid-19 concerns. The admission left open the possibility of a digital event that could be streamed over the Internet but now, that option is off the table, too.

Google in a recent update on its I/O website said that out of concern for the health and safety of their developers, employees and local communities – and in line with recent “shelter in place”

Call of Duty: Warzone attracted more than 30 million players in only 10 days

Bottom line: In just a little over a week, Call of Duty: Warzone looks to be having a good run at wedging its way into the battle-royal market. Whether it is because it is really that good or just because there are a lot more people staying home looking for something different to play remains to be seen, but the numbers are looking good for cementing its place in the pack.

When Activision first announced its take on the Battle Royale genre with Call of Duty: Warzone, I had my

iPhone 12 reportedly still on track for fall launch despite component delays

In brief: It looks like China has the coronavirus outbreak under control in the region, but Apple's supply chain is still moving slower than planned to build the new iPhone 12. According to industry insiders, the company still has at least one month before it can begin assembly of the new phones, but otherwise it looks like the original launch window is still a realistic target.

Back in November 2019, when the coronavirus wasn't on anyone's radar, Apple was telling suppliers to

Global smartphone shipments experienced the biggest decline in history last month

The big picture: The smartphone industry suffered greatly last month according to a new report from Strategy Analytics and with the coronavirus situation only getting worse, the prospect of a quick recovery doesn't seem likely.

Shipments dipped 38 percent year-over-year, from 99.2 million units in February 2019 to just 61.8 million last month.

In context: Worth noting is that the IRS’ latest move only applies to federal income tax. It’ll be up to individual states to set their own deadlines. In California, for example, residents have until June 15 to file and pay state taxes.

US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced on Friday via Twitter that per President Donald Trump’s direction, the federal tax filing deadline will be moved from April 15 to July 15 to give taxpayers and businesses more time to file and make payments without

Former Uber engineer pleads guilty to stealing trade secrets from Google

The big picture: A month after filing for bankruptcy due to being ordered to pay Google $179 million in a legal battle over his departure from subsidiary Waymo, Levandowski has chosen to plead guilty to one of several charges of stealing sensitive information from the company before leaving. The agreement may help him get a softer penalty, but he still owes up to $250,000 and will definitely serve at least two years of prison time.

Back in August 2019, the US

Bethesda accidentally shipped Doom Eternal with a DRM-free executable

Oopsie: Publisher Bethesda apparently made a big boo-boo with its recent launch of Doom Eternal. As users on Reddit and ResetEra quickly discovered, the publisher “accidentally” left a DRM-free copy of the game’s executable in the download package.

It was confirmed earlier this week once the review embargo lifted that Doom Eternal would use anti-tamper technology Denuvo to help slow piracy out of the gate. Once users had a chance to poke around the game files, however, they discovered a DRM-free

Study finds using Android Auto, Apple CarPlay can impair driving more than alcohol and cannabis

Why it matters: Car infotainment software such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is incredibly popular among drivers, but a new study suggests that interacting with vehicle infotainment systems can impair reaction times more than alcohol and cannabis.

A simulator study undertaken by TRL on behalf of IAM Roadsmart—the UK’s largest independent road safety charity—the FIA, and the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund, showed how much drivers’ reaction times slowed based on different scenarios.

It typically takes an undistracted driver one second to react to something. That
