Hong Kong should allow unmarried women to receive assisted reproductive services and extend the soon-to-expire newborn baby bonus, political parties have urged ahead of Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu’s coming policy address and the city’s first five-year plan.

Presenting its proposals to city leader Lee on Friday, Executive Council convenor Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee’s New People’s Party (NPP) also suggested a progressive bonus for families with two or more children.

2 Chinese military naval pilots killed during PLA frontline training exercises

Two Chinese military pilots, including a high-ranking tactical commander, were killed during frontline flight training exercises last month, according to official regional government notices and local media tracking.

Beijing, which seldom discloses military fatalities, has not made any statement about the deaths, and it is not known if the pilots were killed in the same incident.

China, which is aggressively modernising its armed forces, has intensified training on new tactics and hardware to ensure its troops can adapt to the demands of modern warfare.

Hong Kong to extend injury protection to gig delivery workers

Hong Kong’s army of gig workers in food and goods delivery services will be entitled to compensation for job-related injuries under proposed legislation aimed at improving labour protection for those working for digital platforms.

According to a paper prepared by the Labour and Welfare Bureau, the proposal will cover gig workers who sustain injuries or die “as a result of an accident arising out of and in the course of performing platform work”.
