Ubitium announces development of 'universal' processor that combines CPU, GPU, DSP, and FPGA functionalities – RISC-V powered chip slated to arrive in two years

The semiconductor industry produces many kinds of distinct processors, but RISC-V startup Ubitium says it’s working on a single architecture that can rule them all.

Emerging from stealth sometime this year, Ubitium has gone public to announce the development of its Universal Processor, which is based on a “workload-agnostic microarchitecture.”

“Our Universal Processor does it all – CPU, GPU, DSP, FPGA – in one chip, one architecture. This isn’t an incremental improvement.

Apple preparing standalone MacBook Pro speaker repairs, potentially making them more affordable

In a move to improve repairability across its product lineup, Apple will soon be selling speakers as an individual component, something that the company hasn’t done since the 2015 MacBook Pro model.

According to , Apple shared a memo with Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers this week, notifying them that individual speakers will be offered as a standalone repair for the new 14-inch and 16-inch with M4 chips.

Additionally, another MacRumors source indicates that Apple will be expanding this repair

M4 MacBook Pro teardown reveals nearly identical internals to previous model

While the new got a number of sweet quality of life upgrades, the new MacBooks looked about the same externally, except for the gaining an additional Thunderbolt port over the M3 model, something that the M3 Pro/M3 Max models already had.
