Team creates 3D-printed "soft robot" that walks off the machine that made it

(Image credit: The University of Edinburgh)

We've seen cool 3D printers before, and we're definitely no strangers to robots, but this is the first 3D-printed soft robot we've ever seen capable of walking off its own assembly line. The robot was designed and printed by a team from The University of Edinburgh. According to the project journal , a huge goal of this project was to make improvements in the field of fluidic soft systems.

The team had to develop what they

AI can track 3D printed parts back to specific machine that made them

(Image credit: Grainger College of Engineering)

Researchers have developed an AI-driven system which can pinpoint “the specific machine” following an inspection of the 3D printed parts it has produced. A Grainger College of Engineering team from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign say that the system could be used for managing supply chains, “detecting early problems and verifying that suppliers are following agreed upon processes.”

However, talk of the “hidden fingerprints” of 3D printers have got this Sherlock, Columbo, Monk

Anycubic Kobra S1 Review: Good printer, bad slicer

Tom's Hardware Verdict

The Anycubic Kobra S1 a Core XY machine with multicolor capabilities that I really want to love, but brings me to tears every time I run a four color print. It’s heated “ACE” spool holder is awesome, and the machine is very dependable. But the slicer needs work, as won’t tell me how much material It's going to waste, which makes setting up prints extremely difficult.
