Arm, Apple's PC Market Share Shrinks as x86 Rebounds: Mercury Research

Declining sales of Apple's Mac computers in recent quarters couldn't help but influence the share of Arm-based processors in PCs overall. While shipments of Arm system-on-chips (SoCs) grew in the third quarter, sales of x86 CPUs grew more significantly, which reduced Arm's share compared to the prior quarter, according to Mercury Research .

Mercury Research believes that Arm system-on-chips (SoCs) commanded 10.6% of

Xiaomi Reportedly Using China-Based YMTC's 232-Layer 3D NAND Memory

Although Yangtze Memory Technologies Co. (YMTC) has been mass-producing its 232-layer 3D TLC NAND for well over a year now, we rarely get to see this type of memory in action since it looks like it is mainly used in products that are sold in China. But perhaps we will finally experience it in a device that will be available globally. That device is Xiaomi's recently announced 14 Pro smartphone, reports BusinessKorea , and it may feature

AMD Zen 2, Zen 3, Zen 3+, and Zen 4 Mobile CPUs Compared in Linux

Phoronix tested four Thinkpad laptops in Fedora Linux, featuring Zen 2 , Zen 3 , Zen 3+ , and Zen 4 AMD Ryzen mobile CPUs to observe the generational performance difference in a non-Windows environment. Overall, Phoronix found that AMD's Zen 4 architecture yielded the greatest performance gap of the four CPU architectures, easily outpacing the performance advantages from Zen 2 to Zen 3 and from Zen 3 to Zen 3+. However, some of those Zen 4's gains come from

8GB Apple M3 MacBook Pro Crushed by 16GB Config in CPU Benchmarks

M3 (Image credit: Apple)

An Apple executive recently said in an interview that 8GB on the latest MacBook Pros is equivalent to 16GB on regular PCs . While Apple's unified memory architecture helps improve memory performance, it isn't a substitute for raw capacity. New benchmarks , courtesy of Max Tech , show that 8GB substantially limits the performance of Apple's cutting-edge M3 processor.

Anyone with a decent knowledge of hardware knows that having more memory is better for multitasking and

Apple M3 Leads in PassMark's Single-Thread CPU Benchmark, But There is a Catch

Apple's M3-series of chips have started to enter PassMark's CPU benchmark database and continued tradition of their predecessors of being ahead of all rivals in single-thread workloads. Unfortunately for Apple, its M3 Max processor does not stand a chance against flagship offerings from Intel and AMD, which are, of course, more power hungry, in multi-thread workloads.

For now, Apple's 11-core M3 Pro leads in PassMark's single

Apple says 8GB of RAM on M3 MacBooks is similar to 16GB on Windows PCs

TechSpot is celebrating its 25th anniversary. TechSpot means tech analysis and advice you can trust .

Why it matters: Apple's new M3 products push the emerging Arm PC sector to the next level, but the cheapest MacBook in the lineup is a $1,600 notebook with only 8GB of unified memory. Many consider 16GB the current standard and arguably the minimum for intense workloads, but Apple thinks its RAM is different.

Apple has defended its decision to continue releasing new MacBook Pro

Ventana's 192-Core RISC-V CPU Takes Aim At AMD Epyc Genoa And Bergamo

The age of full-fledged RISC-V data center CPUs is nearly upon us, as Ventana's 192-core Veryon V2 is coming in 2024 (via ServeTheHome ). Ventana, founded in 2018, claims the Veryon V2 edges ahead of AMD's Genoa and Bergamo Epyc CPUs. However, the company foresees much bigger victories down the line with its domain-specific accelerator (or DSA) chiplets, which Ventana
