There has been some early success geting Ubuntu up and running on Apple's M1 ARM hardware with using the Apple Hypervisor Framework but it looks like a much better experience is on the way with the forthcoming Parallels Desktop for Apple Silicon.

Parallels this week began rolling out a technical preview program of Parallels Desktop 16 for the Apple M1 Macs for running the likes of Microsoft Windows from ARM-based Macs. Ubuntu also turns out to run rather nicely from this early build of Parallels Desktop.

According to the report from Bloomberg, Microsoft is currently evaluating its own ARM-based processors for its cloud and consumer products.

The manufacturer and software company Microsoft is reportedly working on in-house processors for the upcoming Surface PCs. The decision to move from Intel-based CPUs in favor of more power-efficient processors is yet another blow to Intel after Apple developed its own M1 processors that are already available for consumers.

Samsung this morning has dropped as brief teaser about their next-generation Exynos SoC. Dubbed “Exynos is back”, Samsung is revealing that there will be a proper announcement for the new SoC on January 12, which would fall on the first full day of CES.
