Apple Has Teamed Up With NVIDIA To Research On A ‘ReDrafter’ Technique That Speeds Up Text Generation With Large Language Models

Generative AI features under the Apple Intelligence banner have steered clear from leveraging NVIDIA GPUs to handle cloud-based inputs, with the California-based giant sticking with its custom silicon in its servers that will eventually be replaced by the unreleased M4 Ultra to speed up its Large Language Models. However, a recent blog post from the iPhone maker reveals that Apple and its engineers are not shying away from partnering with NVIDIA if it means both entities have a common goal; implementing faster text generation performance with LLMs. A new ‘

Apple collaborates with NVIDIA to research faster LLM performance

In a , Apple engineers have shared new details on a collaboration with NVIDIA to implement faster text generation performance with large language models.

Apple and its Recurrent Drafter (ReDrafter) technique earlier this year. It represents a new method for generating text with LLMs that is significantly faster and “achieves state of the art performance.” It combines two techniques: beam search (to explore multiple possibilities) and dynamic tree attention (to efficiently handle choices).

While its research demonstrated strong results, Apple collaborated with NVIDIA to apply ReDrafter

AOMP 20.0-1 GPU Compiler Rebased Against ROCm 6.3, Brings SPIR-V JIT Offloading

AOMP 20.0-1 was released on Tuesday as the newest version of this LLVM/Clang downstream focused on shipping the latest AMD patches around Radeon/Instinct OpenMP accelerator offload support.

The AOMP compiler leverages AMD's latest OpenMP GPU/accelerator offloading patches prior to being upstreamed into LLVM proper for providing the very best AMD GPU compiler offload experience. AOMP also bundles in the related ROCm components it uses as part of its GPU compute stack to serve as a standalone build for having all the user-space bits

Intel Looking To Raise SPIR-V Backend To Becoming An Official LLVM Target

The SPIR-V target within the LLVM compiler for outputting to this common IR used across different accelerator/device types, different APIs from Vulkan and SYCL to GLSL / OpenCL / HLSL, and adapted for a variety of innovative use-cases could soon become an official target within LLVM.

Currently the SPIR-V target within LLVM is treated as an experimental target but Intel compiler engineer Michal Paszkowski on the behalf of the Intel compiler team is looking to see the SPIR-V target to becoming promoted to officially supported.
