Is this why we are seeing so many cases of burned yellow-tipped connector?

MSI’s yellow-tipped 16-pin GPU power connector is designed to make insertion easy to verify. The idea is simple, if you can still see yellow, the plug is not fully seated. A new Reddit thread suggests another failure mode, the plug may slowly work its way out over time, making the yellow section visible again even after the user says it clicked into place.
In the post, Reddit user SnooPaintings7769 says the 16-pin connectors on both the GPU and PSU side were fully inserted, with no cable tension, and then gradually backed out. Other users in the same thread report similar partial unseating after checking their own systems.
The problem is with the 16-pin gpu connectors. When I plug them into both the GPU and the PSU, I always make sure they’re fully seated and clicked in properly. There’s no tension on the cables at all — they’re straight and not being pulled or bent sharply. However, over time, the connectors seem to slowly back themselves out. Little by little, I start seeing the yellow part of the connector becoming visible, as if it’s not fully inserted anymore.

If the connector is not fully seated, the risk is not the yellow plastic itself. The concern is reduced contact area on one or more pins. That can increase resistance and heat at the interface, which matches a pattern seen in many melted 16-pin incidents, where damage starts on part of one row rather than the entire connector body.
It also appears this may not be an isolated case. Prompted by the post, other users say they checked their systems and noticed similar behavior, with connectors slowly backing out. At the same time, not all GPUs and power supplies are the same. The yellow-tipped connectors are used on MSI power supplies and on some MSI-provided adapters, so experiences may vary depending on the specific hardware and cable.
After seeing your post i immediatly checked on my psu. Looked the same for me. It seems like the connector pushed itself out a bit

It is also worth noting that some of the most widely shared photos of burned 16-pin adapters show MSI’s yellow-tip design. It is not clear if this reflects higher usage, reporting bias, or a hardware issue affecting certain cases.
