NVIDIA looking at Proton games compatibility

A pair of NVIDIA job listings shared on “linux_gaming” subreddit highlight ongoing hiring tied to Linux graphics drivers, with one role explicitly calling out Vulkan performance tuning for Proton titles . The postings focus on diagnosing performance bottlenecks across the stack, from game engine behavior down to GPU and CPU interactions.
One listing is for a “Senior System Software Engineer, Vulkan Performance.” The description references diagnosing GPU and CPU performance bottlenecks in Vulkan and Proton titles, then implementing driver changes aimed at performance, power efficiency, and latency. It also mentions working with third-party developers on API usage changes when needed.
A second posting targets Linux graphics driver development more broadly. NVIDIA’s “ Linux GPU Senior System Software Engineer ” role references work across Linux graphics stacks, including Vulkan and OpenGL, and emphasizes complex system-level debugging.

Proton has brought a lot more players over, and for some of them Linux is starting to look like the cleaner long-term option as Windows gets heavier and more locked down. Better drivers are the fastest way for NVIDIA to keep those users, reduce the usual “it works, but…” caveats, and make Linux a first-class platform for GeForce owners instead of a side quest.
