Last time to buy an LCD Steam Deck directly from Valve
Steam Deck turned four years old on February 25, 2026, marking four years since the first LCD units started shipping. Valve previously confirmed the February 25, 2022 launch date ahead of the first wave of order emails.
The handheld also helped push SteamOS and Proton into the mainstream for PC gaming on Linux. Steam Deck HQ points to the growth of Steam Deck Verified and Playable ratings, and ongoing client and Proton updates as part of that long tail support story.
Valve recently added a store notice warning that Steam Deck OLED can be out of stock intermittently in some regions due to memory and storage shortages. Valve has also been winding down parts of the older lineup. The company confirmed it is no longer producing the Steam Deck LCD 256GB model, and the listing will not return once remaining inventory sells through.

As for what comes next, Valve has signaled it is not rushing a successor and wants a larger platform jump before moving to a Steam Deck 2 class product. So far, there have been no leaks suggesting Valve is interested in using AMD RDNA 5 technology to power a new handheld. At the same time, RDNA 5 is expected to be AMD’s next major desktop GPU architecture, and it is also reportedly being considered for next-generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft.
