Qualcomm won’t announce Windows gaming handheld chips at GDC 2026 after earlier hint

No Windows handhelds from Qualcomm (yet)

Qualcomm has told The Verge it will not announce Windows gaming handhelds at GDC 2026, despite earlier hints that the company might use the show for a Snapdragon gaming update. The company also says it will not provide Snapdragon X Series updates for journalists to try or benchmark at the event.

GDC 2026 runs March 9 to March 13 in San Francisco, which had lined up as a near-term checkpoint for new Windows on Arm handheld hardware. With Qualcomm stepping back from the show, it is now less likely we will see new Snapdragon-based Windows gaming handhelds next month.

But plans have shifted, Qualcomm now tells me. It won’t announce any updates to its Snapdragon G Series gaming chips there, nor offer the recently announced updates to the Snapdragon X line for journalists to try or benchmark.

Qualcomm statement to The Verge: “ Snapdragon X Series and Snapdragon G Series processors are pushing the PC, desktop, and handheld gaming device industries forward. Our commitment remains strong, and we can’t wait to share more information about these areas,”

Qualcomm did not give a reason, but the Verge report points to the ongoing memory shortage and quotes Qualcomm leadership from its February earnings call about limited memory availability affecting device builds.

There is also a second timing factor on the Intel side. Recent reporting indicates Intel’s “Arc G3” handheld oriented Panther Lake plans have been pushed to Q2 2026 , which would move potential Intel Arc G3 era handhelds out of the March window as well.

With Qualcomm skipping GDC and Intel’s handheld silicon reportedly sliding, the next major industry window looks closer to Computex 2026, which is scheduled for early June. That does not guarantee announcements, but it aligns with when vendors typically reset laptop and handheld roadmaps after Q1 and early Q2 shifts.
