TechPowerUP asked by MSI to remove 2500W BIOS for RTX 5090

MSI reportedly asked for the removal of a leaked 2500 W “XOC” BIOS file for the GeForce RTX 5090 Lightning Z, and the file no longer appears in TechPowerUp’s BIOS collection. .
According to the forum discussion on Overclock.net, TechPowerUp editor-in-chief “W1zzard” said MSI requested the takedown. Users also noted that a “fake Gigabyte RTX 5090 XOC BIOS” entry was still present in the collection at the time of the posts, which added to the confusion around what gets removed and what stays up.

This follows our February 16 report about the 2500 W BIOS surfacing online and spreading across overclocking forums, despite being tied to a special “OCER” class firmware intended for extreme sessions and not daily use. That earlier report also noted MSI’s own warranty warning tied to enabling the XOC mode.

The cleanup may not be limited to a single database. One user in the same Overclock.net thread claimed their GitHub BIOS repository was removed after a DMCA notice that referenced the 2500W file.

This is very surprising given that XOC BIOSes are not easy to find or use. These BIOSes are used by enthusiasts who very well know what they are doing, and MSI even has a note on their product page saying that using such BIOS will void the warranty. That said, MSI taking down these BIOSes is unusual, because almost every XOC BIOS that I can think of has eventually been leaked, and no one has had an issue with it.
So far, MSI has not published a public statement detailing its takedown requests.
