Microsoft tests Highlight Reels auto clips on ROG Xbox Ally X using Gaming Copilot
© Microsoft Microsoft has enabled a new “Highlight Reels” feature for the ROG Xbox Ally X through the Xbox Insider program. The feature appears in Game Highlights (Preview) on the game page inside the Xbox PC app. Xbox says it is available starting today.
Highlight Reels automatically creates short replay clips from gameplay moments, then bundles them into a reel you can view and share. Microsoft says there are no additional downloads required. The capture flow relies on background recording settings in Windows, so it can clip moments while you stay in-game. This feature uses Xbox Ally’s built-in NPU (neural processing unit), which is exclusive to Ryzen AI Z2 series.
This is an early preview with a limited game list. Microsoft names Among Us, Lies of P, Elden Ring, Overwatch, Fortnite, Palworld, and Forza Horizon 5 as the initial supported titles. Xbox is asking Insiders to submit feedback through the Xbox Insider Hub and in-app reporting.

To use it, Xbox instructs Insiders to enable background recording, then launch one of the supported games. The setting can be toggled in Xbox Game Bar, via Windows Settings, or via Gaming Copilot capture settings. After a play session ends, Xbox says a highlight reel is generated automatically and shown under Game Highlights (Preview) in the Xbox PC app.
How to Use Game Highlights on your ROG Xbox Ally X
- Join the Xbox Insider Program if you haven’t already
- Ensure recording settings are enabled.
- You can do this via Game Bar by navigating to Settings > More Settings > Widgets > Record in the background while playing a game.
- There are other ways you can change this setting:
- Via Gaming Copilot: Navigate to Gaming Copilot > Settings > Capture Settings > Navigate to Capture Settings in Widget
- Via Windows settings: Navigate to Settings > Gaming > Captures > Record what happened
- Jump into one of the supported games
- Gaming Copilot will capture clips of gaming moments while you play. At the end of your gameplay session, a highlight reel will automatically be created using these clips, which you can view and share via Game Highlights (Preview) within the game page of the Xbox PC app

ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X were announced in 2025 as a Microsoft and ASUS handheld partnership, with Xbox and Windows integration as a key part of the pitch. Xbox previously said the devices launch on October 16. This Highlight Reels preview is one of the post-launch feature drops Microsoft said would roll out over time.
