
While Apple sits out of the subscription audiobook service game, Spotify and are battling it out lately. Amazon just announced a cheaper Audible membership following Spotify’s recent investment into the spoken word space.
Amazon is adding a Standard membership option that costs $8.99/month and includes one audiobook credit. Audiobooks can be played as long as the membership remains active.
Audible today announced the launch of its new Standard membership plan in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, and France. This offering expands flexibility and access to the audio format—the fastest growing in publishing—featuring one audiobook per month from Audible’s unmatched catalog, plus unlimited listening from a curated library that includes a selection of Audible Originals and nearly 200 of the most popular titles previously available on Wondery+.
Amazon’s existing Premium Plus membership is sticking around for $14.95/month. Audiobooks acquired with the Premium Plus monthly credit can be played without staying actively subscribed to the service.
Amazon says s live now in the “United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, and France, with testing underway in additional marketplaces.”
