MSI developed RTX 5090 D v2 LIGHTNING for Chinese market
© Bilibili A Bilibili user going by “Hardware Patrick Star” has shared what appears to be an MSI GeForce RTX 5090 D v2 LIGHTNING. The video shows a 24GB model tied to the China-only RTX 5090 D v2, which uses cut-down RTX 5090 specifications.
MSI previously said only 1,300 units of its LIGHTNING card would be made, and the unit shown in the video appears to be numbered 909. It is not clear whether this limited-edition numbering is shared across multiple LIGHTNING variants, including RTX 5090 and RTX 5090 D v2 models.
We previously covered the RTX 5090 D v2 shift to 24GB and a narrower memory bus as part of NVIDIA’s China lineup changes. NVIDIA’s official GeForce RTX 5090 D v2 specifications list 24GB of GDDR7 on a 384-bit bus, and 21,760 CUDA cores. MSI already lists retail GeForce RTX 5090 D v2 24G models on its China site, but there is no sign of a LIGHTNING-branded version yet.

If MSI is applying the existing LIGHTNING Z platform to the RTX 5090 D v2, the feature set could be similar. MSI’s GeForce RTX 5090 LIGHTNING Z page lists dual 16-pin power inputs, a design rated for up to 1000W, and an optional 2500W “XOC BIOS” aimed at record attempts, which we previously reported was pulled from public access after it leaked. Officially, the retail model offers 800W and 1000W modes, and based on what we have seen from other RTX 5090 D v2 halo cards, such as ASUS ROG Matrix D v2, MSI could keep similar power limits here.
The 24GB RTX 5090 D v2 is a China-only product, so it is not expected to appear as a lower-memory LIGHTNING option outside that region. These models are meant for the local market and are not intended for broader global sales.
