AMD: Zen4 and RDNA3 on track for 2022 launch
AMD CEO and President, Dr. Lisa Su confirms during Q2 2021 investors call that both highly anticipated AMD product series is on track for 2022 release.
AMD expects the component shortages to continue throughout 2021, but with a good outlook for 2022. This means that AMD Radeon RX 6000 GPUs may continue to see increased MSRP for a lot longer than expected. Meanwhile, AMD Ryzen 5000 CPUs are now available at or close to MSRP in most regions.
AMD Zen4 is expected to launch in the second half of 2022. The series would succeed the refreshed Zen3+/Zen3 3D V-Cache series, which are to debut by the end of this year. The Zen4 CPUs are to include EPYC 7004 series codenamed “Genoa”, client CPUs known as “Raphael” and APUs codenamed “Phoenix”. The client CPUs and APUs are both to offer RDNA2 integrated graphics. The transition to Zen4 will also require a new platform, which is to support DDR5 memory. During the investors’ call, Dr. Lisa Su confirmed that Zen4 products are on track for next year’s release.

Unlike Intel, which had outlined its plans for a few years in advance, AMD is reluctant to share details on its post-Zen4 timeline and architectures. AMD has neither confirmed which products except for Ryzen will receive its 3D V-Cache treatment.

AMD has not publicly confirmed the launch date for RDNA3 GPUs, however, the last two weeks were filled with rumors on these new GPUs. AMD is expected to launch as many as four RDNA3 GPUs, including Navi 31 and 32, both expected to feature multi-chip design, and Navi 33 and 34 which are to be monolithic. Those GPUs have not yet appeared in Linux kernel updates, which is why we do not know their codenames.
