Apple’s new MacBook Neo is official , with pre-orders open now . One noteworthy feature that may be overlooked is that MacBook Neo sets a new record for recycled content in an Apple product.

MacBook Neo features 60 percent recycled content, the most in any Apple product

Apple has a goal of being fully carbon neutral by 2030, and the new MacBook Neo is a key step on that journey.

It features 60 percent recycled content — the highest percentage of any Apple product. This includes 90 percent recycled aluminum overall and 100 percent recycled cobalt in the battery. The enclosure is manufactured with a material-efficient forming process that uses 50 percent less aluminum compared to traditional machining methods.

Apple’s for MacBook Neo gives a little more detail: “MacBook Neo is made with a durable recycled aluminum enclosure that helps it reach 60 percent recycled content by weight, the most ever in any Apple product.”

So the 60 percent number is by weight, and the recycled aluminum enclosure thus makes up a huge chunk of the overall accomplishment.

The company does clarify as well that the “highest percentage of any Apple product” achievement does not include packaging or in-box accessories. It also doesn’t apply to Apple ‘accessories,’ which are differentiated from ‘products.’
