NVIDIA reportedly plans GeForce RTX 5050 with 9GB memory and 96-bit bus

RTX 5050 update: NVIDIA will add 1GB more for gamers

NVIDIA is reportedly bringing 3GB memory modules to the GeForce RTX 50 desktop series, and this is not a new workstation model. It is also not part of a GeForce RTX 50 SUPER refresh either. According to MEGAsizeGPU, NVIDIA is preparing a refresh of the lowest-end SKU in the lineup, the GeForce RTX 5050, using 3GB modules.

The updated card is said to feature 9GB of memory using three 3GB modules. This would require a different memory configuration than the current model. The leaker claims NVIDIA will use a 96-bit memory bus with three modules, which would reduce memory bandwidth.

Interestingly, the current RTX 5050 features GDDR6 memory (the only such model in the RTX 50 series) which is clocked at 20 Gbps. By switching to GDDR7 memory , RTX 5050 will indeed have a narrower memory bus, but bandwidth will be higher if they are to keep 28 Gbps modules.

    RTX 5060 with GB205 also planned

    The leaker adds that this is not the only change coming to the GeForce RTX 50 series. NVIDIA is also reportedly planning an update for the GeForce RTX 5060 using the GB205 GPU , which is currently used by the GeForce RTX 5070. This would mean board partners have to adopt a PCB designed for a different GPU and, reportedly, an 8-pin power connector, which is the only connector used on GeForce RTX 5060 SKUs.

    Essentially, this would mean the GB205 GPU is cut down from 6144 CUDA cores and a 192-bit memory bus to 3840 cores and a 128-bit bus. One disclaimer is that these non-standard GPU variants are often limited to certain markets, so do not expect a global or major launch. It would more likely be something you stumble upon when reading VideoCardz or checking reviews from Chinese outlets.

    NV has jammed AIC with 5060Ti 8G, and later realized Oh shit, no GB206 for 5060. And here comes the solution: 5060 based on GB205. Poor AICs need to make a new 5060 PCB design to house the GB205. Basically making a 5070 PCB with an 8-pin connector.

    We will ask around to find out more. This is clearly new information, and we have not yet heard about this update from other sources. The leaker also claims this means the GeForce RTX 5060 12GB is canceled. This SKU appeared in rumors and early embargo documents last year, but it is now reportedly scrapped.
