Intel begins Mesa enablement work for Xe3P graphics IP

Intel starts upstream work for Xe3P in Mesa Vulkan and OpenGL drivers

Intel has started adding early Xe3P support to Mesa , the open-source graphics driver stack used on Linux. The changes touch Intel’s Vulkan driver (ANV) and OpenGL driver (Iris). Nothing “turns on” yet, but it shows Intel is laying the foundation in public, reports Phoronix .

A big part of this work is GenXML, which is basically Intel’s internal “instruction and command” reference written in XML files. Mesa uses those XML files to auto-generate driver code. Adding Xe3P to GenXML is a practical first step because it lets Intel fill in the missing pieces over time, without rewriting everything by hand. In other words, this is a very early enablement.

Xe3P for Nova Lake, Celestial and Crescent Island

Xe3P is connected to Intel’s next wave of integrated graphics, including Nova Lake . As we previously reported that Nova Lake may include both Xe3 and Xe3P depending on the model. For mobile devices, this graphics upgrade should yield 20 to 25% performance boost compared to 12-core Panther Lake’s Xe3, but that part is not confirmed by Intel.

On naming, Xe3P is also being discussed in the same neighborhood as “ Celestial ” in some coverage. Based on that reporting, Xe3P looks like a likely label tied to Celestial, which is often used as shorthand for Intel’s next-gen desktop (or simply discrete) graphics direction. The Xe3p is also confirmed for “ Crescent Island “, a data center GPU aimed at AI inference rather than gaming or graphics.
