Valve softens Steam Machine launch timing, now says it “hopes to ship” in 2026
Valve has softened its launch language for Steam Machine and the rest of its new hardware lineup. In its new Steam Year in Review 2025 post , the company says it “ hopes to ship in 2026, ” while again pointing to memory and storage shortages as the reason it still cannot lock final plans. That wording is weaker than Valve’s original early 2026 target, and also less specific than the first-half 2026 window it reiterated just a few weeks ago.
At the same time, Steam Machine and Steam Frame pages appear to be getting refreshed. SteamDB now shows generic “Soon” release labels for Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller in its wishlist tracking, while users also spotted fresh activity on the hardware listing history pages. That does not confirm an announcement is imminent, but it does show Valve is still touching these entries as the public launch window becomes less clear.

When the company unveiled the new hardware in November 2025, it said all three products were scheduled to launch in early 2026. Steam Machine was presented as Valve’s second attempt at a living room PC, this time built and sold by Valve itself rather than through the fragmented partner approach that defined the 2015 rollout.

I do not think we can count on an early 2026 release at this point, but who knows, maybe they will announce a barebone variant?
