Intel has launched its brand new Bartlett Lake & Panther Lake CPUs aimed at Edge applications with up to 12 P-Cores.
Intel is expanding its Edge AI offerings with the launch of two new processor lineups, the Core Series 2 "Bartlett Lake" and Core Ultra Series 3 "Panther Lake". Both of these families are designed for various AI applications, with the Bartlett Lake offerings aiming at desktop solutions & Panther Lake offerings aiming at the mobility side of things.
Starting with Intel Bartlett Lake-S Desktop CPUs, these will be branded under the Core Series 2 processor family with P-Cores. In terms of architecture, the CPUs are based on the Intel 7 process technology & are mostly similar to Raptor Lake, but there's one big difference, and that's the P-Core count. Current Intel "S" Desktop CPUs max out at 8 P-Cores, but Bartlett Lake-S chips will offer up to 12 P-Cores, making them the highest P-Core configuration available on desktops.
The Intel Bartlett Lake CPUs offer 50% higher multi-threaded performance gains versus the prior gen, and come in 45W, 65W, and up to 125W SKUs. The CPUs are compatible with LGA 1700 sockets on the Q/H/B series motherboards, and feature all capabilities required to run mainstream AI on the CPU itself or when paired with a discrete GPU. They are Windows Server Ready, support Intel OpenVINO, PyTorch, ONNX run time, and WinML, plus, Intel backs them with a 10-year availability plan with LTSC OS support.
In total, there are 11 Bartlett Lake-S Desktop CPUs ready to ship, starting at 8 cores, 10 cores, and up to 12 P-Cores. These models don't feature any E-cores, but they do feature hyper-threading. The flagship model is the Core 9 273PQE, which features 12 P-Cores clocked at up to 5.9 GHz, an all-core frequency of 5.3 GHz, and a 125W TDP. The 65W Core 9 273PE also offers 12 P-Cores and boosts up to 5.7 GHz while the 45W Core 9 273PTE features 12-cores with a boost clock of up to 5.5 GHz.
All Intel Bartlett Lake-S Desktop CPUs will feature support for up to 192 GB of memory capacities with ECC support and 5600 MT/s speeds. They offer up to 16 PCIe Gen5 lanes, 4 PCIe Gen4 lanes, can drive up to 4K displays, and feature integrated graphics.

For performance, Intel shows that a 65W Core 9 273PE CPU offers up to 3.8x better deterministic chip performance, up to 2.5x higher response time, and up to 4.4x lower max PCIe latency versus a 65W AMD Ryzen 7 9700X. Intel used an 8-core chip against a 12-core chip because AMD's 65W offerings max out at 8-cores with the rest going up to 120-170W.
Moving over to the Intel Core Ultra Series 3 "Panther Lake" CPUs for Edge AI, here Intel showcases up to 4.5x improvement in AI tasks versus the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin 64 GB solution, and also showcases a lead over AMD and Qualcomm chips.
As per Intel, its Core Ultra Series 3 CPUs offer up to 5.8x higher TCO or $5549 US worth of savings when moving from a dual-system to Panther Lake for Edge.
In terms of availability, both the Intel Core Ultra Series 3 "Panther Lake" and Core Series 2 "Bartlett Lake" CPUs are available now. Bartlett Lake-S won't be available in DIY markets but will be sold directly through OEMs for commercial and Edge applications.
