NVIDIA RTX Mega Geometry is coming to The Witcher IV

We can confirm that The Witcher IV will feature NVIDIA RTX Mega Geometry, adding one of NVIDIA’s newer ray tracing technologies to CD PROJEKT RED’s next Witcher game. NVIDIA previously said it had been working with CD PROJEKT RED since the beginning of development, and that the game would launch with the latest RTX-powered technologies. This new detail gives that statement a specific feature name.

RTX Mega Geometry is designed for ray-traced scenes with much heavier geometric detail than traditional pipelines handle well. NVIDIA says the technology accelerates BVH building for cluster-based geometry systems, allowing far more ray-traced triangles and better performance in heavy ray tracing workloads. In simple terms, it is meant to help ray tracing scale better with dense environments, complex meshes, and high-detail assets, much like we remember the open-world Witcher series for.

The Witcher IV is CD PROJEKT RED’s next single-player open-world RPG, with Ciri leading a new saga. The reveal trailer was pre-rendered in a custom build of Unreal Engine 5 on an NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU, and the game has already been used as part of Epic’s Unreal Engine 5.6 presentations focused on large open worlds, faster geometry streaming, dense scenes, and ray tracing. That already placed the project at the center of both Epic’s engine work and NVIDIA’s RTX push.
NVIDIA has been working with CD PROJEKT RED since the beginning of the game’s development, and once it’s ready to ship, The Witcher IV will launch with the latest RTX-powered technologies.
CD PROJEKT RED has been working with Epic on Unreal Engine features for large-scale worlds, while NVIDIA has described itself as a partner on the project from the start on the RTX side. If that stack ships as expected, The Witcher IV will be one of the clearer examples of an Unreal Engine 5 open-world title pairing Epic’s streaming and geometry work with NVIDIA’s newer ray tracing tech.
RTX Mega Geometry is already available in games like Alan Wake 2, which was the first to support it since January last year.
