SK hynix 1c LPDDR6 supply planned for second half of 2026

SK hynix has announced the development of a 16Gb LPDDR6 DRAM chip based on its sixth-generation 10nm-class, or 1c, process technology. The company says it recently completed what it describes as the industry’s first validation of 1c LPDDR6, after first showing the product at CES 2026.
The new memory is aimed at smartphones and tablets designed for on-device AI workloads. According to SK hynix, the new LPDDR6 delivers a 33% increase in data processing speed over LPDDR5X, with a base operating speed of more than 10.7 Gbps. The company says this exceeds the maximum speed of current-generation LPDDR5X products.

SK hynix also claims the new memory improves power efficiency by more than 20% versus the previous generation. The company attributes this to a sub-channel structure and Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling, or DVFS. The sub-channel design allows only required data paths to operate, while DVFS adjusts voltage and frequency depending on workload and device conditions.
The company says these changes are intended to improve battery life and multitasking performance in mobile devices. In heavier workloads such as gaming, the memory can raise performance levels for more bandwidth. In lighter usage, it can reduce frequency and voltage to lower power draw.
SK hynix plans to complete mass production preparations in the first half of 2026 and begin supply in the second half of the year. The company says the product will expand its DRAM lineup for AI-focused mobile devices, as vendors continue pushing more AI processing directly onto phones and tablets.
