ASUS X870 BIOS with AGESA 1.3.0.0a points to ‘Future CPU Support’

ASUS AGESA 1.3.0.0a BIOS may hint at Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 support

ASUS has rolled out another round of AM5 beta BIOS updates based on AGESA 1.3.0.0a, and the update is now being linked to support for a “future CPU.” The current X870 batch includes BIOS 2103 on several ROG and TUF models, while ASUS’ ROG forum posts for the wider 1.3.0.0a rollout describe the update as an AGESA refresh with a BitLocker recovery fix. ASUS does not name any new processor in those public changelogs.

That leaves two obvious possibilities. One is Ryzen AI 400 for desktop AM5 systems. The problem with that theory is simple. Ryzen AI 400 is no longer a future product in branding terms, because AMD officially announced the desktop lineup at MWC 2026 on March 2. AMD said AM5 desktop systems using Ryzen AI 400 processors are expected in Q2 2026 from OEMs including HP and Lenovo. If ASUS really meant those chips, calling them “future CPU” support would be odd wording at this stage.

The other option is Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 , the dual-3D V-Cache part that AMD still has not formally launched. That chip has already appeared in an EEC filing and has shown up in earlier reports tied to partner validation and motherboard testing, which makes it a more natural fit for vague “future CPU” language in a BIOS update. ASUS still has not confirmed that this is the processor in question, so this part remains speculation for now.

So the most reasonable read is that ASUS’ new AGESA 1.3.0.0a BIOS is preparing AM5 boards for more than just stability fixes. Ryzen AI 400 is already official, which weakens the idea that it would be labeled as a future CPU. If this BIOS really does add support for an unannounced Ryzen chip, Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 looks like the stronger candidate right now.
