Intel announces $299 Core Ultra 7 270K Plus and $199 Core Ultra 5 250K Plus CPUs

Intel Arrow Lake Refresh official, but there’s no 290K Plus

Today Intel is announcing its Core Ultra 200S Plus desktop series, adding four new unlocked SKUs to the Arrow Lake-S lineup. The launch includes the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus and 270KF Plus, alongside the Core Ultra 5 250K Plus and 250KF Plus. Intel says the new chips bring more efficiency cores, higher die-to-die frequency, faster official memory support, and a new software layer called Intel Binary Optimization Tool.

4 more cores, 900 MHz+, and a 15% performance claim

The main hardware change is core count. Core Ultra 7 270K Plus moves to 24 cores in an 8P+16E configuration, while Core Ultra 5 250K Plus moves to 18 cores with 6P+12E. Intel also says die-to-die frequency is up by as much as 900 MHz over the Core Ultra 7 265K and Core Ultra 5 245K, which it says improves CPU and memory controller communication and lowers latency.

Intel is making aggressive performance claims for the new lineup, but these figures come from the company’s own testing. According to Intel, Core Ultra 200S Plus delivers up to 15% higher gaming performance than existing Core Ultra Series 2 desktop parts, and up to 103% better multithreaded performance versus competing CPUs in the same segments. Intel also calls the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus its fastest desktop gaming processor to date in the roughly 125W class, while claiming up to 2x creator performance versus competition.

Binary Optimization Tool

Intel describes it as a binary translation layer optimization feature that can improve performance in selected games, even when workloads were originally optimized for another x86 processor, an earlier architecture, or a console target. The feature is optional and tied to advanced mode within Intel Application Optimization, so support will depend on game coverage and platform setup. Honestly, APO has been quite underwhelming in terms of updates and support, I’m surprised they are still pushing more marketing towards this feature.

DDR-7200 and 4-rank CUDIMM

Intel has raised official DDR5 support to 7200 MT/s, up from 6400 MT/s on non-Plus Core Ultra 200S processors. The new chips also keep support for Intel Core Ultra 200S Boost BIOS profiles, including warranty-backed 8000 MT/s memory overclocking. Intel is also talking up early support for 4-Rank CUDIMM memory, with up to 128GB per module on select Intel 800-series motherboards.

Launching March 26

Retail availability starts on March 26, 2026. Intel’s suggested pricing starts at $299 for the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus and $199 for the Core Ultra 5 250K Plus, with KF variants also joining the stack. The chips remain compatible with existing 800-series chipset motherboards, and Intel says more board models will arrive through 2026.

One thing missing from today’s launch is a Core Ultra 9 290K Plus. We exclusively reported that this SKU had been canceled, and Intel’s final lineup now confirms there is no Plus-series flagship above the 270K.
