AMD confirms FSR Diamond as a new codename during Project Helix reveal

AMD has now attached a new name to its next FSR stack. In a social media post published after Microsoft’s Project Helix presentation at GDC 2026, AMD SVP and GM Jack Huynh referred to the technology as AMD FSR Diamond, tying it directly to Xbox’s next-generation platform plans. Microsoft had already said Helix will use a custom AMD chip and a next-gen FSR path with machine learning features. Neither AMD nor Microsoft has confirmed RDNA5 as the GPU backbone of the new console.
Huynh says FSR Diamond as being built for next-generation neural rendering, with next-gen ML-based upscaling, a new ML-based multi-frame generation path, and next-gen ray regeneration for ray tracing and path tracing.
AMD FSR Diamond and RDNA5
Huynh said FSR Diamond is being natively optimized for Project Helix and deeply integrated into the Xbox GDK, which points to tighter platform-level support than a standard game-by-game rollout. Microsoft’s own Helix reveal already advertised the console as a long-term Xbox and PC integration effort, with AMD handling the silicon and the graphics stack.
This means FSR Diamond should be optimized for both the console and desktops using this architecture, reportedly RDNA 5. AMD is not confirming anything about support for other architectures. One thing worth pointing out is that when AMD says something is “ natively optimized for Project Helix, ” which in AMD’s vocabulary often means exclusive support. That was also the case when AMD announced FSR Redstone, but that is just my interpretation.
Update : Hardware leaker Kepler_L2, usually well informed on AMD console plans, claims that FSR Diamond is indeed exclusive to RDNA5.

I guess the main feature that was confirmed today is multi-frame generation , which is not available for FSR4 and FSR Redstone. Both technologies only support single-frame generation (while Redstone’s version is using machine learning).

Neither Microsoft nor AMD has shared launch timing for FSR Diamond beyond its connection to Project Helix. Microsoft said alpha versions of Helix will reach developers in 2027, so Diamond is still part of a longer roadmap rather than an immediate product launch. AMD Radeon Next GPUs, powered by RDNA5, are said to be coming in 2027 as well. It looks like FSR Diamond support will be a lot more common in games, at least those powered by AMD hardware.
