AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D falls to $429, widens gap over 9850X3D

Ryzen 7 9800X3D hits $429

There has not been much to report on CPU deals recently, especially since both AMD and Intel offerings have been relatively quiet. However, with Arrow Lake Refresh expected at the end of this month, we are now starting to see some pricing activity from AMD as well.

AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D has dropped to $429.95 , based on a current Amazon listing for the boxed desktop processor. That puts the 8-core, 16-thread chip below the $430 mark, which is a lower entry point for buyers looking at AMD’s gaming-focused X3D lineup.

At that price, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D now looks like the better deal than the Ryzen 7 9850X3D. The latter is currently listed at $491.22, which leaves a gap of about $61 between the two processors. For buyers focused on value, that is a large enough difference to shift attention back to the older model. Performance-wise, it’s single-digit, if any difference for gaming, which is the main purpose of these CPUs:

A sub-$430 price for an 8-core X3D part is easier to justify for mainstream gaming builds, while the 9850X3D still carries a clear premium despite its own small post-launch drop.

Unless AMD or retailers cut the 9850X3D further, the 9800X3D currently has the stronger price position in this matchup. Technically, the newer chip is no longer at launch pricing ($10/2% difference), but the older part now has a much clearer value advantage.
