Intel announces Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus and Core Ultra 7 270HX Plus for gaming laptops
Intel has announced its new Core Ultra 200HX Plus series for high-performance laptops. The new lineup adds two SKUs to the Core Ultra 200 family, the Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus and Intel Core Ultra 7 270HX Plus . These processors target gaming, streaming, content creation, and mobile workstation systems.
According to Intel, the Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus delivers up to 8% higher gaming performance than the Core Ultra 9 285HX, based on a 32-game average at 1080p High settings. Intel also claims up to 7% higher single-thread performance in Cinebench 2026. Compared to the older Core i9-12900HX, Intel says the new chip can deliver up to 62% higher gaming performance and up to 30% better single-thread results.

One of the main changes is a die-to-die frequency increase of up to 900 MHz compared to Core Ultra 7 285HX and 265HX processors. Intel says this improves the speed of the CPU-to-memory controller link, lowers system latency, and helps gaming performance. The new chips also support Intel’s Binary Optimization Tool, which the company describes as a binary translation layer optimization feature designed to improve performance in select games.

The platform also includes support for discrete Intel Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and Thunderbolt 5. Intel says Thunderbolt 5 can provide up to 80 Gbps of bidirectional bandwidth for storage, displays, charging, and docking. Core Ultra 200HX Plus systems are available starting today, March 17, with additional models expected later this year depending on OEM rollout.
Intel has already named a long list of launch and upcoming systems based on the new processors. The first wave includes gaming notebooks and mobile workstations from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, MSI, Razer, and several boutique or regional brands.
