Amazon became the dominant retailer it is today by promising fast, convenient shipping for customers. And today, the company delivery options that are even faster.

New 1-hour and 3-hour delivery options are launching for over 90,000 products on Amazon across the US.

Amazon says 1-hour delivery is available now in “hundreds of cities and towns across the U.S.”, while 3-hour delivery is offered in “over 2,000 cities and towns.” It plans to expand the faster delivery options to more areas in the months ahead.

If you do live in a supported area, these delivery options come with additional fees:

• $9.99 for 1-hour delivery for Prime members, and $19.99 for non-members
• $4.99 for 3-hour delivery for Prime members, and $14.99 for non-members

Customers will see items eligible for 1-hour and 3-hour delivery throughout their regular Same-Day shopping experience via new messaging next to product names. To make it even easier for customers to browse this selection, we’ve also added “in 1 hour” or “in 3 hours” search filters and a dedicated shopping page in areas where these options are available.

Based on Amazon’s history, it’s likely that the company will eventually move to reduce these fees and make even faster delivery the new normal. Or perhaps it can boost Prime membership costs and make 1-hour and 3-hour options more accessible through a ‘Prime Ultra’ tier .
