NVIDIA DLSS 5 support could broaden RTX Remix modding

This may not come as a surprise, but NVIDIA apparently confirmed that DLSS 5 will be available through Streamline. This is important because, despite NVIDIA’s stated intent to preserve developers’ designs, Streamline could allow modders to enable whatever the technology supports, and developers may have little control over that.
Streamline is also part of the RTX Remix modding ecosystem, although it does not work with every game. It is used with DirectX 8 and DirectX 9 titles. Modders can add ray tracing, DLSS, or even neural-rendered textures. If DLSS 5 is supported, it could clearly transform some older games, think GTA. As an example, GTA4 already has an RTX Remix mod , so technically when DLSS5 becomes available, it will be relatively easy switch for such mods.
According to Digital Foundry, NVIDIA said DLSS 5 could be applied even to games as ‘primitive’ as Minecraft. This game was already refreshed through an official RTX upgrade 5 years ago, mind you.
And I also think, you know, we were told that the way the technology works is it actually integrates into NVIDIA Streamline , right?
So, um, although developers can actually tune DLSS 5 lighting seemingly to to to be what they want it to be, there’s going to be a lot of DLSS 5 mods happening to a lot of games, whether the developers like it or not.
I think, yeah, I’d have to imagine that someone is going to get this in OptiScaler and it’s going to be a bit of a bit of a wild ride. But yeah, I mean they even discussed, I I I spoke with um one of the engineers in this project and he mentioned that you could apply it to games as primitive as Minecraft and get like a Minecraft RTX-style appearance. So this does not just apply to AAA games.

Regardless of how this develops, it will be interesting to see how NVIDIA handles the criticism. On one hand, the company insists that developers’ and artists’ intent will be preserved and respected. On the other, allowing DLSS 5 to expand through RTX Remix could open the door to much more aggressive visual changes in older games.
This would go beyond updated textures, faces, or lighting. RTX Remix can already replace assets and introduce new rendering features, so DLSS 5 could push those transformations further. Older games may end up looking far removed from their original versions.
