AMD refreshes FSR Redstone SDK

AMD has released FSR SDK 2.2 on GPUOpen, marking the first major update to its FSR “Redstone” stack since the December 2025 launch. The new package updates AMD FSR Upscaling to version 4.1 and AMD FSR Ray Regeneration to version 1.1, while the wider SDK still includes FSR Frame Generation 4.0 and FSR Radiance Caching 0.9 as a technical preview.
The new ML-based features remain tied to RDNA 4 hardware. AMD lists Radeon RX 9000 series GPUs or newer as the requirement for FSR Upscaling 4.1, while Frame Generation 4.0, Ray Regeneration 1.1, and Radiance Caching 0.9 require Shader Model 6.6 support. AMD also lists DirectX 12 as the supported graphics API, and notes that the current Unreal Engine 5 FSR plugin still uses FSR Upscaling 4.0.3, with a 4.1 update planned later.
According to AMD, FSR Upscaling 4.1 improves image quality in motion through updated inference, which the company says results in a sharper image. AMD also says the new build improves ultra-performance mode and dynamic resolution scaling.


For ray-traced workloads, Ray Regeneration 1.1 adds image quality and memory-use improvements, plus new debug view modes for developers.


SDK also has FSR for older generations (but not 4.0+)
AMD is also keeping fallback paths for older hardware in place. The SDK includes analytical modes for upscaling and frame generation, with support listed for FidelityFX Super Resolution 3.1.5 and 2.3.4 on Radeon RX 500 series GPUs and above, or equivalent hardware from other vendors, while FidelityFX Frame Generation 3.1.6 is listed for Radeon RX 5000 series and newer. AMD also says future Adrenalin driver releases will be able to update some ML-based FSR components in supported DirectX 12 games without requiring a game update.
AMD used Crimson Desert to showcase both updates, and says the game is the first to integrate Ray Regeneration 1.1. FSR SDK 2.2 is available now through GPUOpen, with binaries and limited source posted on GitHub.
Unfortunately, since FSR Redstone was announced last year, we only have two major titles supporting this technology, and not even a full stack of features. Hopefully the release of this SDK will speed up things a bit; just keep in mind it’s not an open-source release.
