CHUWI finally admits CoreBook X and CoreBook Plus shipped with wrong CPUs, offers refunds

CHUWI issues refund offer after admitting CoreBook X and Plus used incorrect processors

CHUWI has issued a statement on the CoreBook X and CoreBook Plus processor controversy, and this time the company is directly calling it a production error . In a post, Chuwi said a limited number of both laptop models were assembled with incorrect processors and told affected buyers to return them for a full refund.

That wording is the clearest response the company has given so far. Earlier reports found that some CoreBook X and CoreBook Plus laptops sold as Ryzen 5 7430U systems were actually using Ryzen 5 5500U processors.

From legal threats to refunds

CHUWI says customers should start the return through the original purchase channel or contact its support team directly. The company set the refund period through May 31, 2026, and says returned systems must be in original condition with all accessories included. I mean, good luck with that. Even the media did not notice the CPU switch, so how would an unsuspecting customer realize they were using a system with the wrong CPU and still keep it in “original condition”?

Also, let us remind you this company issues legal threats towards NotebookCheck who discovered the CPU mismatch.

The statement still leaves open questions. CHUWI does not say how many units were affected, and it does not explain how the processor mismatch happened. It also only mentions CoreBook X and CoreBook Plus, while it was also revealed that the UBox mini PC is also affected, but apparenntly is not included in this refund program.

The company never contacted us again after asking us to take down the earlier reports. It also never shared this statement with us directly. That does not look like a change of heart, but a public-facing attempt to contain the damage.
