Samsung Display has announced QuantumBlack , a new low-reflection film for QD-OLED monitors. The company says the new layer reduces light reflectance by 20% versus its previous film . Samsung also confirmed QuantumBlack will be applied across all new QD-OLED monitor products launching in 2026.

The update is not limited to glare reduction. Samsung says QuantumBlack also raises panel surface hardness from 2H to 3H. This means better resistance to scratches during cleaning or handling.

Samsung says the goal is to preserve deeper black levels in bright rooms, where ambient light can wash out dark scenes. Shadow detail and object separation are impacted by black level performance, which is important for gaming displays. Samsung is clearly tying this launch to gaming monitors, where QD-OLED already competes on contrast and response times.

The company also says partners are already shipping products based on the new film. ASUS markets it as Black Shield, Gigabyte calls it Obsidian Shield, and MSI uses the Dark Armor name. Those branding differences suggest QuantumBlack is becoming a common base technology across several 2026 QD-OLED monitor launches.
