Sony suspends CFexpress and SD card orders in Japan over memory shortage

Sony halts CFexpress and SD memory card orders

Sony Marketing Inc. said on March 27 that it has temporarily suspended new orders for several digital imaging storage products in Japan. The company said the move affects orders from authorized dealers and direct customer orders through the Sony Store, citing a global shortage of semiconductors used for memory and other factors.

The affected list includes four CFexpress Type A cards, CEA-G1920T, CEA-G960T, CEA-G480T, and CEA-G240T, plus two CFexpress Type B cards, CEB-G480T and CEB-G240T. Sony also paused orders for nine SDXC and SDHC cards across the SF-G, SF-M, and SF-E series, bringing the total to 15 models.

Sony said supply is expected to remain below demand for the foreseeable future. The company has not provided a date for resuming orders and said it will make that decision later while monitoring supply conditions, with a separate update to be posted on product information pages.

Keep in mind, this appears to be a Japan-specific order freeze for now, not a confirmed global sales suspension.
