TrashBench puts massive CPU cooler on RTX 3080

YouTuber TrashBench brings yet another (crazy) mod to GPUs. He tested an unusual GeForce RTX 3080 cooling mod by fitting an ARCTIC WS360 workstation AIO onto the card. The goal was to see whether a server and workstation cooler could solve one of the RTX 3080’s biggest weak points. ARCTIC sells the WS360 series as a workstation liquid cooler, with versions for AMD SP5, AMD SP6, and Intel LGA4710 platforms, not for graphics cards.

The biggest change is memory temperature. Based on the charts shown in the video, VRAM temperature dropped from 101.6°C on the stock air-cooled card to 49.6°C with the WS360 at stock settings. Hotspot temperature fell from 84.4°C to 48.2°C, while core temperature dropped from 62.6°C to 35.6°C.
Lower temperatures also improved sustained clocks. The stock air setup averaged 1941 MHz, while the WS360 stock setup reached 1996 MHz. The overclocked air setup averaged 1990 MHz, and the WS360 overclock climbed to 2183 MHz .

The 1440p High gaming results shown in the charts are consistent with that. In Cyberpunk, the WS360 stock result matches the air overclock at 107 FPS, while the WS360 overclock reaches 112 FPS. In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the WS360 overclock scores 172 FPS versus 159 FPS on air at stock. Forza Horizon 5 rises from 186 FPS to 198 FPS, Assassin’s Creed Mirage from 101 FPS to 108 FPS, and Far Cry 6 from 133 FPS to 140 FPS in the same comparison.

TrashBench is already known for similar cooling mods, or perhaps stunts is the better word. These are the kind of ideas many people think about but rarely get the chance to test. TrashBench simply does it, and it is fair to say there are still plenty of ideas left in the tank.
