Intel Bartlett Lake-S enters POST screen on ASUS Z790, still a lot of work ahead
Intel refused to launch its 12 P-Core CPUs for consumer boards, but modders are already at work to fix it.
© Intel/kryptonfly/OCN A community member “kryptonfly” has now shown what appears to be the first successful POST screen for Intel’s Bartlett Lake-S Core 9 273PQE on a consumer ASUS Z790 motherboard.
Intel will not release official support for its latest Core 200 series non-Ultra processors on consumer platforms. Bartlett Lake-S is not a consumer-first product , it is designed for edge and industrial systems. Still, because this lineup had been discussed for months before launch, we already knew it stood out in one key area: it offers up to 12 Performance cores , something no LGA1700 or LGA1851 desktop CPU has offered so far. Naturally, enthusiasts want to see how such a chip would perform on a consumer motherboard, since for now it remains limited to certain industrial designs.
ASUS does have Bartlett Lake support on some non-consumer platforms, Z790 boards included. The ASUS Z790-AYW OC WIFI support page lists standard 12th, 13th, and 14th Gen Core processors.

According to the post from OCN, the board now posts with the new CPU, which is correctly shown in the BIOS, however the modder encountered some issues with the USB device. That’s as far as it goes for now.
Interestingly, Kryptonfly used Claude AI to modify the BIOS, so if he got this far, chances are this will be fixed in no time. Still, going past the UEFI into the operating system is one thing, but enabling overclocking options may be a true hurdle. But fingers crossed! And Intel, just release official microcode already…
