PNY upgrades GeForce RTX 5070 RMA to Ti variant

We often share stories from Reddit. Many of them are hard to believe, but quite a few turn out to be real, especially those involving product switch scams, fake return goods, and similar issues. But today we have a good story to share. PNY has apparently upgraded a user’s card from an RTX 5070 to a much better RTX 5070 Ti model.
The GeForce RTX 5070 Ti has 8,960 CUDA cores, 16GB of GDDR7 memory, and 896 GB/s of memory bandwidth. The GeForce RTX 5070 has 6,144 CUDA cores, 12GB of GDDR7, and 672 GB/s bandwidth. That means the replacement card brings about 46% more CUDA cores, plus 4GB more VRAM and 33% more memory bandwidth.
NVIDIA announced the GeForce RTX 5070 at $549 and the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti at $749, so the official difference is $200. That’s the theory, in practice, the cheapest RTX 5070 Ti now retails for around $950, while the RTX 5070 costs around $650, so that’s a $300 difference.
Neither the Reddit user nor, apparently, PNY provided any explanation for why the company chose to upgrade the user’s card to a higher-end model. Other Reddit users also said PNY had done something similar in the past, such as replacing an RTX 4070 Ti with a SUPER model.
