Xbox app update adds Display widget and Automatic Super Resolution controls for ROG Xbox Ally X

Microsoft expands Xbox app handheld tools with Display widget

Microsoft has quietly updated the Xbox app on Windows with a new Display widget and new notification placement controls, according to a report from ROGAllyLife. The site says the overlay now exposes display resolution, projection mode, and Auto Super Resolution settings directly inside the Xbox interface, with the change aimed at handheld use on the ROG Xbox Ally X. Xbox Support also maintains an active Xbox app on PC changelog, which suggests the feature is part of the normal app update track.

The company already brought its Xbox full screen experience to ASUS ROG Ally and ROG Ally X devices, describing it as a console-style interface that reduces background activity, while Game Bar Compact Mode was built around smaller screens and controller navigation.

Microsoft says Auto SR is an OS-level AI upscaling feature for DirectX games that can deliver sharper visuals and smoother frame rates from a lower render resolution, with no game-side developer work required. Microsoft has already been using the Insider track to ship handheld features first. In early March, it opened Highlight Reels in preview for ROG Xbox Ally X owners through the Xbox Insider Program.

For now, Microsoft has not published full rollout details for the Display widget in the official sources visible here, so device coverage and timing may still vary.
